With its long history dating back to 1886, the year it was founded by Ángel Gómez de Arteche, the Gómez Cruzado winery is one of the most interesting companies in Rioja. The winery underwent a major renovation in 2005 after being acquired by the Mexican Baños family and is now run by winemaker David González. Gómez Cruzado produces red and white wines with a strong focus on the Rioja wine tradition, classified in the Terroir Selection and Gómez Cruzado Family ranges.

Produced from a blend of grapes with a majority of Viura and additions of Tempranillo and Garnacha in their white versions, Gomez Cruzado Blanco is a white wine that surprises for its great expressiveness, freshness, and complexity and that can evolve with a few years in the cellar. The grapes are harvested from over thirty-year-old vines grown on stony, alluvial soil. One-half of the wine is aged for 5 months in French oak barrels with fine lees. The remaining half is always aged on its fine lees but in a concrete tank.

The wine shows a bright golden color. On the nose, it is delicate, with aromas of white flowers and fresh white fruit and some vegetal notes in the background. In the mouth, it shows a nice roundness due to the refinement on the lees, but the citrus notes and the lively acidity make it fresh and vibrant. Try it with chicken or turkey.
