I buy from here from time to time as they have some favourite wines that it's difficult to source elsewhere. Acceptable prices and well packaged. My only reason for not giving five stars is that the delivery date never is the date given at check-out. Always a few days later. So take the delivery date with a pinch of salt.

Biologische wijnen

Biologische wijnen mogen alleen worden gemaakt van druiven die zonder chemische toevoegingen zijn geteeld. Dit betekent dat chemische herbiciden, pesticiden en fungiciden in de wijngaard verboden zijn en dat wijnmakers in de wijnmakerij geen chemische kleur- of smaakversterkers mogen gebruiken. In plaats daarvan gebruiken biologische producenten alternatieven zoals mest en natuurlijke grazers zoals schapen om de groei van onkruid onder controle te houden. De vraag naar biologische rode wijn, biologische prosecco en biologische witte wijn is de laatste tijd sterk gestegen, waardoor het een van de populairste wijnkeuzes van dit moment is.

Verschillende definities van biologische wijnen

Iets wat verwarrend kan zijn bij biologische wijnen is dat verschillende plaatsen verschillende definities hanteren. In Europa en Canada moet een biologische wijn gemaakt zijn van biologisch geteelde druiven, maar mogen wijnmakers wel sulfieten toevoegen. In de VS is het wijnmakers verboden sulfieten toe te voegen en mogen zij alleen biologisch geteelde druiven gebruiken. De meeste regio's hebben biologische certificeringsprogramma's zoals het USDA National Organic Program en de officiële certificering van de EU.

Belangrijke biologische wijngebieden

Biologische wijnen worden over de hele wereld gemaakt, maar er zijn enkele regio's waar deze praktijk bijzonder gangbaar is. De grootste producenten van biologische wijnen zijn Frankrijk, Spanje en Italië, die samen ongeveer 80% van alle biologische wijnen ter wereld produceren. Biologische Spaanse wijnen zijn bijzonder belangrijk geworden doordat het areaal biologisch geteelde wijngaarden daar de afgelopen tien jaar met 522% is toegenomen.
