Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Opgericht in 1980 door Clive Paton en zijn vrouw, is Ata Rangi een klein Nieuw-Zeelands bedrijf gelegen op het zuidelijke puntje van het Noordereiland. Het bedrijf staat bekend om zijn uitstekende Pinot Noirs en kreeg de Grand Cru of New Zealand award voor zijn Pinot Noir. Het team, geleid door de dynamische wijnmaker Helen Masters, produceert drie Pinot Noirs en een verscheidenheid aan witte wijnen op basis van Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris en Sauvignon Blanc.

    De Pinot Noir druiven komen van de McCrone wijngaard, gelegen niet ver van de hoofdwijngaarden, maar gekenmerkt door de aanwezigheid van een compacte laag oppervlakkige klei die de koeling van de wortels en het vasthouden van water in de bodem bevordert. Dit resulteert in een wijn met een heel andere structuur en smaakprofiel dan de Pinot Noir van het domein. Na de vinificatie wordt de wijn 11 maanden gerijpt in Franse barriques (waarvan 25% nieuwe).

    Ata Rangi's McCrone Pinot Noir heeft intense aroma's van kersen, pruimen en viooltjes, gevolgd door kruidige en kruidige tonen en wat minerale nuances. In de mond is hij levendig en elegant, goed gestructureerd en met fijne tannines. De afdronk is lang en aanhoudend en herinnert aan complexe fruittonen. Hij is ideaal bij lamsvlees, speciaal gebakken met kruiden, risotto met paddenstoelen of wild.
