Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Eind 1800 opgericht door Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, na de aankoop van ongeveer 300 hectare land, is Quinta do Vale Meão vandaag de dag een zeer prestigieus wijnhuis, dat wordt beheerd door de familie Olazabal, die het in 1998 overnam. Het bedrijf produceert wijnen van druiven die afkomstig zijn van de eigen wijngaarden. De meest voorkomende druivensoort hier is de Touriga Nacional, die het beste tot zijn recht komt op de unieke bodems van de Dourovallei.

    De Douro Tinto is een blend van Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca en Tinta Roriz, geperst in granieten vaten die lagares worden genoemd. Na de gisting wordt de wijn gerijpt in Franse eiken vaten.

    De wijn heeft een intense en diepe kleur met robijnrode tinten. Het aromaprofiel is breed en complex met tonen van rijp donker fruit en kruidige hints. In de mond is hij vol en rond met dichte en goed geïntegreerde tannines en een frisse en evenwichtige zuurgraad. De afdronk is lang en elegant en doet denken aan lichte kruidige tonen. Het is een karaktervolle wijn die een paar jaar in de kelder kan blijven, maar hij is ook perfect om nu te drinken in combinatie met rood vlees of wild.
