Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    De Seghesio familie begon wijn te maken in Californië in 1895 toen Edoardo Seghesio begon met het planten van Zinfandel wijnstokken op zijn land in de Alexander Valley. Meer recentelijk heeft de derde generatie Seghesio's, Pete en zijn neef Ted, het landgoed op de kaart gezet voor topkwaliteit Californische Zinfandel, geproduceerd van zo'n 120 hectare topwijngaarden. Vandaag de dag omvat het landgoed locaties in Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley en Russian River Valley.

    Deze Old Vine Zinfandel is afkomstig van wijngaarden in Dry Creek en Alexander Valley die gemiddeld 70 jaar oud zijn. De wijngaarden worden zorgvuldig beheerd om de opbrengst te minimaliseren en een uitstekende kwaliteit te behouden met groene oogst en uitdunning bij veraison. Deze oudere wijnstokken zijn vooral gewild omdat ze kleinere hoeveelheden geconcentreerde Zinfandel druiven produceren met een opmerkelijk kruidig karakter.

    In de wijngaard worden de druiven gefermenteerd in open top tanks en de jonge wijn wordt vervolgens gerijpt in Franse en Amerikaanse eiken vaten gedurende 14 maanden. Het krachtige smaakprofiel opent met hints van cassis, bramen en chocolade in de neus, terwijl het gehemelte een weelderige volle body heeft, afgeronde tannines en een zeer lange afdronk.
