Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Opgericht door twee wijnliefhebbende neven in 1989, heeft Shaw and Smith de maatstaf gezet voor uitzonderlijke wijnen uit de Adelaide Hills. Martin Shaw is een "vliegende wijnmaker" die advies heeft gegeven aan topwijnhuizen over de hele wereld, terwijl Michael Hall Smith de allereerste Master of Wine van Australië werd. Het tweetal besloot samen te werken en hun eigen wijnmakerij in de Adelaide Hills op te richten nadat ze het potentieel van deze opkomende regio hadden ingezien.

    Shaw en Smith maakten hun allereerste Shiraz in 2002, waarbij ze de wijn maakten van fruit uit de warmere en drogere delen van hun Lenswood en Balhannah wijngaarden. De wijngaarden worden zorgvuldig beheerd voor een zeer lage opbrengst en het fruit wordt met de hand geplukt voor een maximale kwaliteit. Het fruit wordt vergist in open-top fermentoren en de jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 14 maanden in Franse eiken vaten voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    In de neus zijn er ruime hints van cassis, zwarte kersen en zwarte pruimen, samen met zwarte peper en veel kruiden. De eerste slok onthult een royale volle body, soepele maar stevige tannines en een goed afgeronde textuur. De afdronk is lang en intens met hints van donkere chocolade, houtrook en tabaksblad.
