A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Barbale is een van de opkomende wijnhuizen in de Georgische wijnscene. Het wijnhuis, opgericht in 2016, produceert biologische druiven van wijnstokken in de deelgebieden Racha, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli en Kakheti, historische zones voor de productie van Georgische wijnen. Het exploitatiecentrum is gevestigd in het dorp Bolnisi, in de Kartli regio, een gebied dat wordt beschouwd als de bakermat van de geschiedenis van de wijnbouw. Barbale gebruikt zowel oude Georgische traditionele methoden als meer moderne technologieën voor de productie van haar wijnen.

    De Barbale Chinuri wordt in beperkte hoeveelheden gemaakt van 100% Chinuri druiven die worden verbouwd in het Shida Kartli gebied, rond de middeleeuwse stad Ateni. De druiven worden gefermenteerd in de traditionele ondergrondse Qvevri terracotta potten, met hun schillen en stengels.

    De resulterende wijn toont een licht gouden kleur en een neus van heerlijke fruitige tonen van perzik en meloen, gevolgd door kruidenaroma's en gekonfijte sinaasappelschillen. In de mond is hij evenwichtig en mineraal, met een aards mondgevoel als gevolg van de terracotta potmethode. De tannines zijn uiterst delicaat en de zuurgraad is licht en perfect geïntegreerd. De algemene sensatie is aangenaam en verfijnd. De wijn is perfect bij gevogelte en vis.
