Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    El Vedao is een complexe, volle Garnacha, geleid door tonen van wilde pruimen en aardbeien, met op de achtergrond tonen van bakkruiden, peper en zongedroogde kruiden. De druiven zijn afkomstig van enkele van de oudste, meest hooggelegen wijngaarden in Rioja. In gebieden zoals La Revilla, Terreras en Las Naves zijn de wijngaarden 35 tot 100 jaar oud en groeien ze op een mineraalrijke ondergrond van kalksteen.

    Bodegas Bhilar is een kleinschalig wijnhuis, eigendom van en wordt gerund door het powerkoppel David Sampedro en Melanie Hickman. De wijnkelder bevindt zich in de regio Elvillar in Rioja Alavesa, een van de beste rode wijngebieden in Spanje, beroemd om zijn hoge ligging. Bhilar is altijd een familiebedrijf geweest en het echtpaar hanteert een compromisloze, traditionele aanpak bij het wijnmaken.

    Het gevoel voor vakmanschap van de wijnmakers schijnt door in de mond, die elegant en gelaagd is, met een krachtige structuur. Typisch sterk rood Garnacha fruit domineert bij de eerste slok, gevolgd door onderstromen van garrigue, tabaksrook, leer, vanille en cacao. De tannines zijn fijn en ingetogen. Dit is een goed gemaakte Rioja, emblematisch voor de Elvillar regio - overweeg deze wijn te combineren met chorizo, geroosterd vlees of een vegetarische stoofpot.
