    Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Na een bijna 30-jarige carrière als wijnmaker en consultant in heel Portugal, lanceerde João Silva Sousa in 2017 zijn Bota Velha project en opende hij een wijnmakerij in Penajoia. Het project richt zijn aandacht op oude wijngaarden die, dankzij hun diepe wortels in de bodem en lage opbrengsten, druiven en dus wijnen produceren die zeer geconcentreerd zijn en een grote balans en elegantie hebben, sterk representatief voor het terroir van de Dourovallei.

    Bota Velha Unico is een blend van Touriga Franca en Touriga Nacional en 3 verschillende jaargangen (2017, 2019 en 2020). De druiven komen van 3 oude wijngaarden. De wijnbereiding wordt geleid door wijnmaker Tiago Alves de Sousa van Quinta da Gaivosa. De afgewerkte wijn, waarvan ongeveer 2000 flessen worden geproduceerd, rijpt 24 maanden in vaten. Het etiket is ook uniek; er zijn verschillende kleurencombinaties en geen twee etiketten zijn hetzelfde.

    De wijn heeft een dichte kleur met robijnrode tinten. Het aromaprofiel is fris en geurig met tonen van donker fruit en kruidige en balsamico hints. In de mond is hij rijk en vol, zacht en evenwichtig. De tannines zijn stevig en goed geïntegreerd en de afdronk is lang en warm. Het is een wijn met een grote persoonlijkheid die goed samengaat met rood vlees.
