A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Drink hem nu of bewaar hem tot 25 jaar in een kelder. Het wordt aanbevolen om de wijn een uur te decanteren.

    Gelegen in het gehucht Pez, in de gemeente Saint-Estèphe, in de Medoc, werd Château Ormes de Pez gesticht in de 18e eeuw, en gekocht door de familie Cazes in 1939. De naam is afgeleid van de eeuwenoude iepenbomen (die helaas niet meer bestaan) die het domein omringden. De wijngaard strekt zich uit over meer dan 35 hectare, met kiezelachtige percelen op kwarts- en kiezelbodems die ideaal zijn voor de rijping van cabernet sauvignon, en klei-zandachtige bodems die gunstiger zijn voor merlot.

    De wijn is een blend van Merlot en Cabernet Sauvignon, in gelijke delen, met kleine toevoegingen van Cabernet Franc en Petit Verdot. De druiven worden handmatig geoogst van wijngaarden met een gemiddelde leeftijd van 35 jaar. De afgewerkte wijn rijpt 15 maanden in eikenhouten vaten (45% nieuw).

    Chateau Les Ormes de Pez is een rijke en expressieve wijn met een geurig aromatisch profiel met tonen van zwart en rood fruit (kersen, donkere bessen en pruimen) en vervolgens lichte florale tonen, rokerige hints en tabaksbladeren. In de mond is hij rond en heeft hij een uitstekende tanninestructuur. Hij heeft een goede body en een goed uitgebalanceerde zuurgraad met een lange afdronk die doet denken aan tonen van zoethout. Drink hem bij gerookte brisket.
