Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    In de noordelijke uithoeken van Californië maakt het wijnhuis Edmeades verschillende ruige en robuuste bergwijnen. Ze noemen de regio hun thuis sinds de jaren 1960 toen Dr Donald Edmeades een perceel druiven plantte in de buurt van het dorp Philo in Anderson Valley. Het bedrijf is momenteel eigendom van Jackson Family Wines en wordt geleid door hoofdwijnmaker Ben Salazar.

    Anderson Valley ligt slechts 10 mijl van de Stille Oceaan en herbergt een van de koelste klimaten in Californië. Regen, mist en zoute oceaanwinden worden naar de vallei geslingerd, die ongeveer van oost naar west loopt. Iets verder naar het zuiden in de canyon kunnen warmere klimaatrassen zoals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot en intense Zinfandels rijpen, elk met een unieke en uitgesproken Nieuwe Wereld stijl.

    Deze Zinfandel bevat spatten van zowel Syrah als Petite Syrah, samen goed voor 20% van de blend. De neus is krachtig en aromatisch, met tonen van cassis, gebrande koffie en warme, huiselijke kaneel. Zijn dieprode kleur wordt geëvenaard door zijn opvallende smaak en kracht - dit is een perfecte fles om te delen met vrienden. Vol en rond in de mond, tonen van bramen en chocolade maken plaats voor pruimen en eikenhout op de afdronk. Perfect gezelschap voor rookrijke gerechten, wildvlees of gerechten op basis van linzen.
