Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Nu drinken of tot 15 jaar bewaren. De moderne geschiedenis van Glenelly gaat terug tot 2003, toen het landgoed werd gekocht door de legendarische Franse wijnmaker May de Lencquesaing, die meer dan 30 jaar eigenaar was van Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux. Ondanks dat May 78 jaar oud is, is ze snel aan de slag gegaan om deze boerderij in Stellenbosch om te vormen tot een wijnmakerij van wereldklasse, met een reputatie voor het produceren van Bordeaux-blends met een uitstekende prijs-kwaliteitverhouding.

    De Lady May cuvee is vernoemd naar May de Lencquesaing zelf, en is een eerbetoon aan haar visie en inspirerend leiderschap. De dominante component in de blend is Cabernet Sauvignon uit Stellenbosch, samen met wat Cabernet Franc, Merlot en Petit Verdot voor extra complexiteit en stijl. Elk ras wordt apart gevinifieerd en gerijpt op de wijnmoer voor een aanzienlijke periode voordat het wordt overgebracht naar nieuwe Franse eiken vaten voor 24 maanden rijping.

    Deze knappe botteling zal zeker in de smaak vallen bij liefhebbers van grote, gedurfde rode wijnen en barst van de rijpe cassis, bramen en donkere kersen smaken die nog lang na de eerste slok op de tong blijven hangen. In de mond is er een rijk, broeierig karakter met een royale volle body, stevige tannines en lagen en lagen van weelderig donker fruit, specerijen en gedroogde kruiden. Een geweldige partner voor wild, stevige rundvleesgerechten of vleeswaren.

    Lady May is Glenelly's vlaggenschip Estate wijn. Elegant en complex, de wijn ontwikkelt smaken van cassis, zwarte bessen, donkere kersen, een vleugje grafiet en delicate kruidige pruimen. Fris en levendig, de evolutie van de wijn introduceert smaken die specifiek zijn voor Glenelly's terroir. Diep gekleurd en perfect in balans, de wijn toont een uitstekende structuur met fluwelen tannines en een zeer goede verouderingscapaciteit.
