    La Rioja Alta begon zijn leven in 1890 als een samenwerking tussen vijf lokale telers die hun wijnen buiten de Spaanse grenzen wilden exporteren naar nieuwe kopers in Frankrijk. De nieuwe wijnmakerij werd opgericht vlak naast het treinstation in Haro, waardoor het landgoed snel kon uitbreiden en nu wordt beschouwd als een toonaangevende producent van rode Rioja wijnen in traditionele stijl.

    In 1904 fuseerde het wijnhuis met Bodegas Ardanza, waarbij het enkele van Rioja Alta's beste wijngaarden verwierf. Deze mijlpaal wordt herdacht met deze Gran Reserva 904, die voornamelijk is gemaakt van 60 jaar oude Tempranillo wijnstokken geplant in Rodezno, Briñas en Villalba. Er is ook een kleine hoeveelheid Graciano uit Montecillo om gratie en elegantie toe te voegen aan de afgewerkte wijn.

    De druiven worden eenmaal zorgvuldig gekneusd in de wijnmakerij en laten gedurende 75 dagen spontaan gisten voordat ze worden overgebracht naar Amerikaanse eiken vaten. Na bijna drie jaar rijping wordt de wijn acht keer overgestoken en de uiteindelijke blend wordt het volgende jaar gebotteld. Het is een sierlijke maar robuuste uitdrukking van Rioja, met ruime tonen van rode pruimen en kersen die in de mond overgaan in meer hartige en aardse smaken. Een geweldige wijn om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om te combineren met hartige gerechten zoals wild, biefstuk of runderwangen geserveerd met romige polenta.
    Toevoegen om te vergelijken
