A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Deze klassieke Pinot Noir in Nieuwe Wereld stijl is het werk van de familie Matetic, die in 1892 van de Kroatische kust naar Chili emigreerde. Na vele jaren gewerkt te hebben op hun succesvolle schapenboerderij in Punta Arenas, besloten ze in 1999 wijn te gaan maken in de El Rosario Vallei in San Antonio op slechts 15 km van de Stille Oceaan.

    De druiven voor deze botteling zijn afkomstig van landgoedwijngaarden in de vallei die zijn aangeplant op uitstekende granietbodems en worden verbouwd volgens biodynamische principes in harmonie met Moeder Natuur. De wijngaarden worden meestal droog bewerkt, wat een lage opbrengst oplevert van zeer geconcentreerd fruit. In de wijnmakerij worden de druiven gefermenteerd met wilde gisten en de jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 18-20 maanden in Franse eiken vaten voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    Het smaakprofiel is krachtig en fruitig met veel cassis, bramen en kersen, samen met hints van viooltjes, bakkruiden en bosgrond. De eerste slok onthult een lichte body, levendige zuurgraad en intense smaken die lang op de tong blijven hangen. Een geweldige wijn om te drinken bij eend, wild of gebraden lamsvlees met kruiden.
