Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Opgericht door de Engelse immigrant Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1844, met als doel medicinale wijn te produceren, is Penfolds vandaag de dag de beroemdste en meest prestigieuze producent van Australische wijn. Het grote succes kwam in de jaren 1950, dankzij de oenoloog Max Schubert en de creatie van wat wordt beschouwd als hun meest representatieve wijn, Grange. Om aan de vraag van de markt te voldoen, begon het bedrijf in dezelfde periode ook met de productie van de tafelwijnen Bin 389, Bin 707, Bin 28 en Bin 128. Tegenwoordig maakt het bedrijf deel uit van de Treasury Wine Estates groep, samen met Matua, Beaulieu Vineyard, Beringer en Wolf Blass.

    De eerste jaargang van Penfolds RWT Bin 798 Shiraz was in 1997 en werd in 2000 op de markt gebracht. Op dat moment had de naam van de wijn nog niet de benaming Bin 798 en stond de RWT voor "Red Winemaking Trial", wat duidt op het voortdurende experimenteren. RWT wordt geproduceerd met druiven van Shiraz uit de Barossa Valley en gerijpt in Frans eiken.

    De wijn is geconcentreerd en krachtig. In de neus onthult hij een weelderig en uitbundig aromatisch profiel, met tonen van pruimen, moerbeien en aalbessen, en dan hints van koffie, chocolade en hazelnoot. In de mond is hij rijk, substantieel en gespierd. De tannines zijn stevig maar soepel. De afdronk is lang en dicht en doet denken aan hints van chocolade. Het is de perfecte wijn bij rood vlees.
