A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Ramey Wine Cellars werd in 1996 opgericht door David Ramey en zijn vrouw Carla en werd door de bekende wijncriticus Antonio Galloni uitgeroepen tot een van de beste wijnhuizen van de Verenigde Staten. Na tientallen jaren gewerkt te hebben voor bekende wijnhuizen als Dominus en Matanzas Creek, besloot David zijn dromen na te jagen en zijn eigen wijnmakerij te beginnen op het platteland van Healdsburg.

    Vandaag de dag maakt David prachtige ambachtelijke wijnen die aloude tradities uit de Oude Wereld combineren met creativiteit en innovatie uit de Nieuwe Wereld. De filosofie van het landgoed is om sierlijke wijnen te maken met een eigen unieke persoonlijkheid en karakter, dus David is niet bang om risico's te nemen, zoals wachten tot de allerlaatste minuut om zijn druiven te oogsten om maximale rijpheid te garanderen.

    Deze klassieke Napa Valley Cabernet ademt onstuimige donkere pruimen, kersen, leer en rokerige tabak in de neus, die zich verdiept in kirsch, donkere bessen jam en zoethout smaken in de mond. David selecteert zorgvuldig alleen de beste Cabernet-druiven voor deze schoonheid uit Napa Valley en laat de wijn vervolgens 18 maanden rijpen in eikenhouten vaten om extra complexiteit en finesse toe te voegen. Het resultaat is een serieuze wijn met een lange toekomst voor zich dankzij de stevige structuur en soepele tannines die deze glorieuze Cabernet zullen helpen gracieus te rijpen in de kelder tot minstens 2028.
