A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Rupert & Rothschild werd opgericht in 1997 op een rustige Franschhoek boerderij aan de voet van de Simonsberg in Zuid-Afrika's West-Kaap. Het begon als een partnerschap tussen Baron Edmond van de beroemde Rothschild familie van wijnmakers en de lokale Zuid-Afrikaanse ondernemer Dr Anton Rupert. Vandaag is het in de bekwame handen van de nieuwe generaties van beide families die zich richten op het maken van topwijnen in een oude wereldstijl van het prachtige Zuid-Afrikaanse terroir.

    De Baron Edmond cuvee is samengesteld uit Cabernet Franc en Merlot, samen met een klein beetje Cabernet Sauvignon voor extra complexiteit en structuur. Het fruit wordt met de hand geoogst in Stellenbosch en gefermenteerd in houten vaten en roestvrijstalen tanks. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 18 maanden in Franse eiken vaten van 225 liter voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    Cederhout, bosgrond en heldere noten van wilde bessen domineren in de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een royale volle body, een goed ontwikkelde structuur en stevige tannines onthult, waardoor deze wijn prachtig kan rijpen in de kelder. De stevige kern van rijp fruit en het robuuste smaakprofiel maken dit een geweldige partner voor een entrecote, rijke stoofschotels van rundvlees of zelfs een royale schotel vleeswaren.

    Created to honour one of the original founders, the Baron Edmond cuvee is composed of Cabernet Franc and Merlot along with a smaller dash of Cabernet Sauvignon for extra complexity and structure. Cedarwood, forest floor, and bright wild berry notes dominate on the nose, while the first sip reveals a generous full body, well-developed structure and firm tannins that will help this wine age beautifully in the cellar. The solid core of ripe fruit and robust flavour profile make this a great partner for a sirloin steak, rich beef stews, or even a generous platter of charcuterie
