Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Het Saints Hills wijnhuis is een familiebedrijf en is gevestigd in een oud stenen huis dat vroeger een wijnmakerij was voordat de eigenaren zo'n 80 jaar geleden naar Amerika emigreerden. Vandaag de dag zijn de nieuwe eigenaren gespecialiseerd in het produceren van traditionele lokale wijnen en zijn de familieleden betrokken bij elk aspect van het landgoed, van het geven van rondleidingen aan bezoekers tot het bereiden van heerlijke Franse gerechten voor de gasten in de wijnmakerij.

    Hoewel het wijnhuis pas in 2014 is opgericht, heeft het al eersteklas wijngaarden in drie belangrijke Kroatische wijngebieden; het schiereiland Peljesac, op het Dalmatische vasteland en in Istrië. Deze prachtige Plavac Mali komt uit Dingac op het schiereiland Peljesac, het eerste gebied dat in 1961 zijn eigen appellation kreeg in Kroatië. Plavac Mali gedijt hier goed dankzij de steile hellingen en hete zomerdagen die worden getemperd door de verkoelende bries van de nabijgelegen zee.

    Al het werk in de wijngaard moet met de hand worden gedaan vanwege de sterke helling, waarbij elke individuele bes zorgvuldig wordt gecontroleerd in de wijnmakerij. Na de vinificatie rijpt de jonge wijn 18-24 maanden in Franse eiken vaten voor extra glans en complexiteit. Het is een krachtige, volle rode wijn die barst van de sappige donkere bessen, kruidige noten en hints van graniet, leer en zongebakken aarde. Een geweldige wijn om een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu te serveren bij rosbief, stevige stoofschotels of zelfs gebarbecuede ribbetjes.

    Deze prachtige Plavac Mali komt uit Dingac op het schiereiland Peljesac, het eerste gebied dat in 1961 zijn eigen appellation kreeg in Kroatië.
