A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Zwitserse advocaat Mauro von Siebenthal werd verliefd op de Aconcagua Vallei in Chili tijdens een reis naar het land in de jaren 1990, en in 2009 verhuisde hij permanent naar het land om zijn droom om fulltime wijn te maken na te jagen. Hij kocht een elegant koloniaal landhuis dat vandaag de dag het hoofdkantoor van de wijnmakerij is, evenals het omliggende land dat hij beplantte met Bordeaux variëteiten.

    Deze gemakkelijke Carmenere wordt gemaakt met Chili's vlaggenschip druif die nu volledig is vergeten in zijn geboorteplaats Bordeaux. De druiven voor deze Gran Reserva komen van landgoedwijngaarden op de Orocoipo heuvel, waar de granieten bodem en de lange zomerdagen uitstekende groeiomstandigheden bieden voor de variëteit. De Carmenere wordt in de wijnmakerij gemengd met een kleine hoeveelheid Cabernet en rijpt vervolgens 12 maanden in eikenhouten vaten voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    Rijke rode kersen, pruimen en wilde bessen bepalen de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een gemiddelde body, soepele tannines en een zachte, goed afgeronde textuur onthult. De afdronk is lang en gekruid met hints van kruiden, geroosterd eikenhout en houtrook van de eikenhouten rijping. Combineer met vleeswaren, rijpe kazen, pastagerechten op basis van tomaten of aards wild zoals hert en patrijs.

    Deze gemakkelijke Carmenere is gemaakt van Chili's vlaggenschipdruif die nu volledig vergeten is in zijn geboorteplaats Bordeaux. Weelderige tonen van rode kersen, pruimen en wilde bessen bepalen de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een gemiddelde body, soepele tannines en een zachte, goed afgeronde textuur onthult.
