A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een ware legende in de hechte Piemontese wijnmakersgemeenschap, Domenico Clerico overleed helaas in 2017. Hij stond bekend om zijn uitzonderlijke Barolo wijnen die zeer gewild waren bij wijnliefhebbers over de hele wereld. Vandaag de dag leeft zijn nalatenschap voort door de wijnen die door zijn landgoed worden geproduceerd en die lovende kritieken blijven ontvangen.

    De druiven voor deze wijn worden zorgvuldig geselecteerd uit de oudste wijnstokken van het landgoed, die tussen de 45 en 55 jaar oud zijn. Ze worden met de hand geoogst en ondergaan een lange maceratie periode om de maximale smaak en tannines te extraheren. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 24 maanden in Franse eiken vaten, gevolgd door nog eens 12 maanden flesrijping.

    Deze prachtige cuvee is een uitstekend voorbeeld van een traditionele Barolo met zijn gedurfde smaken, krachtige structuur en het vermogen om decennia lang elegant te rijpen. Verwacht een diepe robijnrode kleur in het glas met intense aroma's van rood en zwart fruit, kruiden, tabak en een vleugje vanille. In de mond is hij vol en goed gestructureerd met stevige tannines en een lange, aanhoudende afdronk. Past goed bij rijke, stevige gerechten zoals geroosterd vlees, stoofschotels en oude kazen.
