A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Gevestigd in het wijngebied van Victoria, Australië, wordt Giant Steps Winery algemeen erkend als een van Australië's belangrijkste producenten van Chardonnay en Pinot Noir. Het bedrijf, dat wordt beschouwd als een van de meest vooruitstrevende in het land, wordt nu geleid door Phil Sexton (die het in 1998 oprichtte) en wijnmaker Steve Flamsteed, die in 2003 bij het wijnhuis kwam. Giant's Steps wijnen worden alom gewaardeerd om hun expressieve persoonlijkheid.

    De Chardonnay druiven komen van de Sexton wijngaard en worden handmatig geoogst en in hele trossen geperst. De gisting vindt plaats met inheemse gisten in vaten met een capaciteit van 500 liter. Om de levendige frisheid van de druiven te behouden, onderging de wijn geen malolactische gisting. De wijn rijpte uiteindelijk 10 maanden op de droesem in nieuw en gebruikt Frans eikenhout.

    De Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay is een lichte en heldere goudkleurige wijn. De neus onthult een levendig aromatisch profiel met rijp steenfruit, limoen en citroenschil en interessante minerale en zilte tonen. In de mond is hij licht en levendig, met een gemiddelde body en evenwichtige zuren. De afdronk is lang en herinnert aan intense minerale tonen. Het is de perfecte wijn voor een aperitief, maar past ook heel goed bij rijke salades met pittige sauzen, vegetarische gerechten, quiche en vlees van gevogelte.
