    Drink nu of kelder tot 13 jaar. De Glaetzer familie arriveerde in 1888 in de Barossa Valley nadat ze hun geboorteland Brandenberg in Duitsland hadden verlaten om een nieuw thuis te vinden in Australië. Hier werden zij enkele van de eerste geregistreerde druiventelers in de Barossa en de Clare Valley. Deze traditie werd voortgezet door Colin Glaetzer, die in 1995 zijn eigen wijnmakerij oprichtte. Colin's zoon, Ben, trad ook in de voetsporen van zijn familie en in 2004 werd hij uitgeroepen tot Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year.

    Heden ten dage is Ben wijnmaker bij Glaetzer, dat gespecialiseerd is in het produceren van uitzonderlijke Barossa wijnen in kleine batches. De familie experimenteert momenteel met 35 druivensoorten, maar de koning van de Barossa blijft Shiraz. Deze voorname botteling draagt de familienaam van Colin's vrouw en toont een elegante kijk op deze krachtige variëteit. De druiven zijn afkomstig van 30-120 jaar oude wijnstokken uit de koelere Ebenezer subregio van de Barossa, met een lange maceratie om veel kleur en tannines te extraheren.

    De jonge wijn wordt vervolgens 16 maanden gerijpt in nieuwe en gebruikte Franse eiken vaten voordat hij wordt gebotteld. Rijke cassis, donkere kersen en gedroogd fruit bepalen de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een weelderige volle body, rijpe tannines en goed afgeronde textuur onthult met een zeer lange gekruide afdronk. Een geweldige wijn om nog ongeveer tien jaar in de kelder te bewaren, hoewel hij ook nu kan worden gedronken bij stevige rode vleesgerechten.
