A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Het Portugese wijnhuis Quinta do Vale Meão is eigendom van de familie Olazabal, die het in 1998 overnam. Het landgoed maakte oorspronkelijk deel uit van AA Ferreira S.A., nadat het in 1877 was aangekocht door D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Vandaag de dag produceert het wijnhuis, dat gevestigd is in de bovenste Dourovallei, wijnen van hoge kwaliteit met druiven die afkomstig zijn van de eigen wijngaarden, gelegen op bodems van alluviale oorsprong en bestaande uit leisteen en graniet.

    Monte Meao Vinha dos Novos is een rode wijn geproduceerd met Touriga Nacional. De druiven worden met de voet geperst in granieten lagares en vervolgens gefermenteerd in Franse eiken vaten bij een gecontroleerde temperatuur. De afgewerkte wijn rijpt vervolgens in gebruikte barriques van 225 liter.

    De wijn heeft een heldere en briljante kleur met robijnrode tinten. In de neus onthult hij een fris en complex aromatisch profiel. Hij heeft tonen van rood fruit en bloemen, jeneverbessen en enkele hints van chocolade. In de mond is hij elegant en harmonieus. Hij heeft een goede structuur, zijdezachte tannines en een goed uitgebalanceerde zuurgraad. De afdronk is lang en verleidelijk. Hij is klaar om nu gedronken te worden, maar kan ook tien jaar in de kelder blijven. Geniet ervan met gerijpte kazen of gebraden lamsvlees.
