Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    De moderne geschiedenis van dit uitzonderlijke landgoed gaat terug tot 1924, maar het hedendaagse succes is grotendeels te danken aan het werk van Giuseppe Quintarelli die vocht om de traditionele methoden van wijnmaken te volgen terwijl zijn buren overgingen op massaproductietechnieken. Zijn toewijding aan kwaliteit en aandacht voor detail heeft Quintarelli een wereldwijde reputatie opgeleverd voor complexe Amarone wijnen die uitgebreid worden gerijpt in Slavonische eiken vaten.

    Er wordt veel zorg besteed aan de wijngaarden, waarbij de wijnstokken meerdere malen worden gepasseerd om ervoor te zorgen dat het fruit bij optimale rijpheid wordt geoogst. Hun traditionele Valpolicella wijnen worden gemaakt met technieken zoals appassimento, een methode waarbij de druiven worden gedroogd op strooien matten om de smaken in de afgewerkte wijn te concentreren.

    Quintarelli's klassieke Amarone wordt gemaakt in een weelderige stijl en wordt alleen geproduceerd tijdens de beste wijnjaren. Deze robuuste rode wijn wordt algemeen beschouwd als de benchmark voor de Amarone stijl en rijpt zeven jaar in Slavonische eiken vaten. Het resultaat is een weelderig geconcentreerd smaakprofiel met een gulle, volle body, soepele tannines en een stevige structuur die goed zal reageren op verdere opslag in een kelder. De krachtige aroma's van donker fruit maken dit een uitstekende keuze om nu te drinken bij stevige rode vleesgerechten of om enkele decennia te bewaren.
