Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Het verhaal van Ridge Vineyards gaat terug tot 1885 toen de Italiaanse arts Osea Perrone 180 hectare kocht nabij de top van de nu beroemde Monte Bello Ridge. Het moderne wijnhuis ontstond in de jaren 1960 en 1970 toen de wijnwereld zich langzaam het ongelooflijke potentieel van de Californische wijnen realiseerde. Dankzij het harde werk van drie ingenieurs van het Stanford Research Institute oogstte het domein veel succes en kreeg het al snel de reputatie enkele van de beste Californische wijnen te produceren, waaronder de legendarische Monte Bello Cabernet.

    De Ridge Geyserville is een van de beste Zinfandels van Californië, dankzij een combinatie van visionaire wijnbouw en oude wijnstokken van uitstekende kwaliteit. De wijn wordt sinds 1965 elk jaar gemaakt met druiven afkomstig van drie aangrenzende wijngaardpercelen, geplant op goed drainerende kiezelgrond. Na de vinificatie wordt de wijn gerijpt in Amerikaanse eiken vaten om complexiteit en subtiele gekruide tonen toe te voegen aan de uiteindelijke botteling.

    Op de neus zijn er sierlijke hints van bramen, donkere pruimen en gedroogd fruit, terwijl de eerste slok een royale volle body, zachte maar stevige tannines en rijke donkere bessen smaken laat zien. Het gedurfde smaakprofiel en de goed ontwikkelde structuur maken dit een uitstekende wijn voor langdurige kelderrijping en hij zal zich de komende tien jaar blijven ontwikkelen.
