A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Schiavenza werd in 1956 opgericht in Serralunga d'Alba, dankzij de vereniging van enkele wijngaarden die destijds toebehoorden aan de Opera Pia Barolo. De naam Schiavenza komt van dezelfde dialectterm die verwijst naar de deelpachters die destijds op deze percelen werkten. Vandaag de dag strekt het bedrijf zich uit over ongeveer 8 hectare, waaronder ook enkele percelen in Monforte d'Alba, en produceert het prachtige wijnen van Nebbiolo, Dolcetto en Barbera.

    De Nebbiolo druiven worden geselecteerd uit de prestigieuze Broglio cru, gelegen op ongeveer 360 meter boven zeeniveau, op klei/zachte bodems. Dit is een traditionele Barolo die minstens 3 jaar rijpt in grote Slavonische eiken vaten.

    Deze elegante Barolo heeft een heldere kleur met granaattinten en wat oranje reflecties. Het aromatische profiel is breed en complex met florale tonen van roos, intense aroma's van rode bessen, specerijen, zoethout, leer en enkele balsamico hints. In de mond is hij karaktervol en fris met stevige en goed geïntegreerde tannines en een lange afdronk die doet denken aan de geuren van het kreupelhout. Deze wijn wordt traditioneel gecombineerd met stoofschotels van rood vlees en wild, maar doet het ook goed bij rijpe kazen.
