A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Tenuta San Guido is het landgoed waar Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in de jaren 1960 de beroemde Sassicaia Super Toscaanse wijn creëerde. Het uitzonderlijke terroir hier dicht bij de Toscaanse Tyrrheense kust en het gebruik van Franse druivenrassen heeft het landgoed op de kaart gezet voor enkele van de meest indrukwekkende fijne wijnen van Italië.

    Meer recentelijk, in 2000, debuteerde Mario's zoon Nicolò zijn eigen iconische wijn, Guidalberto, die is vernoemd naar zijn betovergrootvader die een pionier was van de moderne landbouw in het 19e eeuwse Bolgheri. Deze elegante cuvee in Bordeaux-stijl is voornamelijk samengesteld uit Cabernet Sauvignon, samen met een kleinere hoeveelheid Merlot. Al het fruit wordt zorgvuldig gesorteerd om de kwaliteit te maximaliseren. De rassen worden apart gefermenteerd en rijpen 15 maanden in Franse eiken vaten voordat ze worden gemengd.

    Guidalberto is een klassieke tweede wijn van dit legendarische Italiaanse landgoed met een complex smaakprofiel en een uitstekend rijpingspotentieel. Verwacht een rijke, kruidige neus met hints van leer, donkere bessen en aarde en een stevige kern van bramen, pruimen en donkere kersen in de mond met een lange en elegante afdronk. Een geweldige wijn om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu van te genieten bij rood vlees en gerijpte harde kazen.
