A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    De oprichter van dit wijnhuis, Mauro von Siebenthal, bezocht de Aconcagua Vallei voor het eerst in de jaren 1990 en besefte al snel dat Chili de plek kon zijn waar hij zijn levenslange droom om wijn te maken kon verwezenlijken. In 2009 verliet hij zijn geboorteland Zwitserland om zich hier permanent te vestigen en richtte zijn aandacht op het oprichten en ontwikkelen van zijn eigen wijnmakerij en het beplanten van het ongerepte land met Bordeaux en andere internationale variëteiten.

    Het terroir hier is ideaal voor premium wijnbouw dankzij de lange, hete zomerdagen en alluviale en granietbodems. Deze verfijnde Syrah is vernoemd naar Don Franscisco de Carabantes, de Dominicaanse broeder die in de 16e eeuw de eerste druivenstokken naar Chili bracht. De druiven voor deze wijn zijn afkomstig van 20 jaar oude wijnstokken en de jonge wijn rijpt 18 maanden in eikenhouten vaten voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    Succulente tonen van bosbessen en kersen barsten onmiddellijk uit het glas, gevolgd door hints van viooltjes, rozemarijn en gebakken aarde. In de mond is er een royale volle body, zachte tannines en een lange afdronk met aanhoudende toetsen van kruiden en vanille van de eikenhouten rijping. Ideaal om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu van te genieten bij smaakvolle gerechten als gebarbecuede ribbetjes, lasagne, aubergine parmigiana of stevige stoofschotels.
