A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Noemd tot een van Wine & Spirits Top 100 Wineries of the Year in 2021, wordt Woodlands Wines beschouwd als een van de top wijnmakerijen in de Australische Margaret River regio. Toen het in 1973 werd opgericht door David en Heather Watson werd het een van de allereerste wijnhuizen die in Margaret River werden aangeplant, en in de tussenliggende jaren heeft Woodlands een uitstekende reputatie opgebouwd voor leeftijdswaardige Cabernet blends in Bordeaux-stijl.

    Deze prachtige cuvee is gemaakt van de eerste Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot en Cabernet Franc wijnstokken die door David en Heather zijn aangeplant. De kiezelhoudende leemgrond en de oost-west oriëntatie van de wijnstokken zijn ideaal voor het creëren van topkwaliteit wijnen, en helpen bij het creëren van een lang rijpingsseizoen voor het fruit. Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij worden de druiven zorgvuldig gesorteerd en gevinifieerd. De uiteindelijke blend rijpt 19 maanden in nieuwe Franse eiken vaten.

    In het glas valt meteen de rijke, diepe karmozijnrode kleur op en de verleidelijke hints van cassis, donkere kersen en moerbei, gekruid met hints van houtrook en kruiden van het eikenhout. De eerste slok onthult stevige tannines, een stevige volle body en een fijn uitgebalanceerde afdronk met veel weelderige bessensmaken en hartige kruidentonen van laurier en verse munt. Dit is een geweldige rode wijn om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu te serveren bij stevige rode vleesgerechten.
