Bought in 2009 by the Julian family, that was joined in 2015 by Samuel Montgermont, the Saint Patrice estate is steeped in history, and in fact, Clos Saint Patrice was known as one of the best vineyards in Chateauneuf Du Pape as early as 1838. In this area in the southern Rhone the Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers, together with the soil give the wines their particular opulence, structure, and aromatic complexity.
The vineyard, grown organically, is located on the main terrace of the appellation, in the heart of the village of Chateauneuf Du Pape. It extends over only 1.8 hectares, made up of ancient Grenache and Mourvèdre vines, and it is completely exposed to the south. The surface of the land is covered with the traditional Rhone Valley stones (‘galets'), while the soil is rich in clay and sand resulting from the crumbling of the hill. This specific terroir gives the wine a unique character.
Chateauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is characterized by a magnificent deep red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is distinguished by aromas of very ripe dark fruit and some notes of black olives. In the mouth, the wine is rich and concentrated with a wide range of aromas of thyme, blackberries, and olives and a long and intense finish. Try it with game, especially venison and hare.
