A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Gesticht als Hedges Cellars door Tom en Anne-Marie Hedges, is Hedges Family Estate nog steeds een familiebedrijf dat wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste in de staat Washington en AVA Red Mountain. Tegenwoordig is Anne-Marie en Toms dochter Sarah de hoofdwijnmaker en hun zoon Christophe de algemeen directeur. De landbouwpraktijken zijn biologisch geworden.

    De 100% Syrah druiven komen van de Les Gosses wijngaard, gelegen in de kleine maar beroemde Red Mountain AVA, beplant met de klonen van Joseph Phelps en Tablas Creek. De wijn rijpt 19 maanden in nieuwe vaten.

    Deze elegante Syrah uit het Red Mountain wijngebied heeft klassieke aroma's van rood fruit en bosbessen, kruidige tonen van zwarte peper en komijnzaad, zoete hints van vanille korstdeeg en donkere cacao. In de mond komen de zoete en kruidige fruittonen intens terug en krijgt u een mooie levendigheid met een zachte en zijdeachtige afdronk. Het is een wijn met een volle body en een sterk maar ook zeer overtuigend karakter. Probeer hem eens bij een sappige steak, een pittig geroosterd lamsvlees of wat geroosterde portobello paddenstoelen.
